Maddy
My Bedtime Demon
Once upon a time, there was a little girl and this little girl liked nighttime. She liked how the moon turned everything silver. She would spend nights just sitting in her cozy bed watching the moon and stars. They were only friends. She liked talking to the moon and stars, but all they did was shine back at her, never saying anything. She was very lonely. One night though, as she sat in her jammies looking out at the moon, she heard a sound, a sound that she had never heard before. It was sad and pretty. It made her think of moonlight too. She wanted to hear more but did not know where it was coming from. She leaned out her window to look around and noticed something very different. Outside, on the street, was a demon. But this was no ordinary demon with horns and a tail. This was a very pretty one, and from what she could tell, very lonely. It played an instrument and swayed side to side with each passing bar. It finished it's song and looked up. It had noticed the little girl. It had very pretty eyes. The demon smiled and waved it's bow and the little girl smiled and waved back. Then, the demon did something magical. It lifted up from the ground and began to fly. Up up up, higher and higher until it reached the girl's bedroom window.
"Hello." it said
"Hello." the girl answered.
"Did you like the song?" asked the demon.
"Yes, very much." answered the girl.
"Would you like it if I played for you every night?" The demon asked.
"Oh yes yes yes!" cried the little girl.
The demon then took it's long, elegant fingers and stroked her cheek.
"I'll play you a lullaby tonight. It will help you sleep." said the demon eagerly.
The little girl smiled with delight and leapt into her bed. The demon floated into the room and gently tucked the blankets over her shoulders.
"Monsieur?" asked the little girl. "Will you be my friend?"
The demon did not answer, but kissed her forehead and lifted his bow and instrument. Instantly, the demon began a soft lullaby that could only be heard by the pure and good. Taking that as a yes, the little girl closed her eyes and drifted into a deep sleep. The demon, seeing that his work was done, stopped playing and took his flight, remembering his promise to come and play for her.
Finally, they had both found the friends they had always dreamed of.
